It is with the local community, also, where citizens can have the greatest influence. Their votes count more in local elections and their help is more appreciated in local events and projects.

It is the elected and appointed officials of local government who direct the efforts of and make the decisions for citizens. They pass ordinances, manage the services of the local government and provide a bridge between citizens and central government. They are often called upon to perform a number of varied tasks and duties. Most often then, they are generalists and are not necessarily trained in a specific field such as accounting or engineering.
